Abstract:

The intervertebral disc herniation affects usually the most distal segment of lumbar spine, most often due to degenerative changes and mainly in the 3rd to 5th decade of life (in 95%). The disease received a lot of attention worldwide not only in terms of diagnosis and treatment, but also in terms of prevention and rehabilitation, in which yoga plays an important role. Yoga has a very comprehensive influence and harmonizes the body, mind and breathing. It is recommended to proceed from simple to more challenging asanas, performing exercises slowly and smoothly in accordance with the breath. The internal perception and conscious sensations of movement in a state of well-being is equally important. The positive effects are visible after regular and persistent practice. The author presents the appropriate asanas of the Yoga in daily life sysetm (YDL). In this way, patients create a muscular corset around the spine and balance the muscular system of trunk and limb girdles, ensuring optimal spinal posture and prevent the development of functional and structural disorders. Due to its basic principles, the YDL system is very good for treatment and prevention of herniated intervertebral disc. The introduction of specific asanas and breathing exercises into common practice is a major contribution for patients with vertebrogenic diseases.
