The Eternal Light of Sri Mahaprabhuji

Honouring the Mahasamadhi of a God-Realised Master

When Bhagwan Sri Deep Narayan Mahaprabhuji prepared to leave his physical body, he gathered his disciples in the early morning for satsang. After lovingly distributing prashad, he offered his final words of reassurance:

“The light of my true form shall always be with you.”

At exactly five o’clock, he began chanting AUM and entered the highest state of consciousness, rising through the brahma randhra (sahasrara chakra at the crown of the head). Though his heart had ceased to beat, a serene, divine smile remained on his face. His closest disciple, Hindu Dharmsamrat Paramhans Sri Swami Madhavanandaji, later described this moment:

“Such a samadhi is only possible with God-realised yogis.”

A Departure Foretold

In Lila Amrit The Divine Life of Sri Mahaprabhuji, Paramhans Swami Madhavanandaji (Holy Guruji) recounts the profound moments surrounding his beloved Master's Mahasamadhi. Mahaprabhuji had already revealed, ten months in advance, that he would depart on Pausha Krishna Chaturthi, 5 December 1963, at exactly 5:00 am.

When Holy Guruji struggled to accept this revelation, Mahaprabhuji asked him to express his deepest wish. Holy Guruji replied:

“Master, may my concentration always rest in you. May your devotees be blessed and led in your omnipotence to achieve Brahmananda (Divine Bliss). I wish for millions of people to live by your blessing, so that the world's suffering will be relieved.”

Sri Mahaprabhuji blessed him, assuring:

“The light of my true form shall always be with you. Wherever you are, at any time, you are protected by me. Whatever you wish will be fulfilled. Whenever devotees concentrate on me, I will be there to help them.”

A Global Day of Devotion

Mahasamadhi Observance in Yoga in Daily Life

Every year on 5 December, devotees around the world gather in ashrams to honour the moment when Mahaprabhuji consciously left this world. In India, Mahaprabhuji’s Mahasamadhi is also celebrated according to the Vedic lunar calendar, which means the date varies each year; thus, at OM Ashram, the celebration will take place on 8 December this year, 2025.

These satsangs are deeply moving for all who attend. The largest gatherings take place at OM Ashram in Jadan, Rajasthan, India and at Mahaprabhudip Ashram in Strilky, Czechia, where the commemorations are led by Vishwaguru Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Sri Swami Maheshwaranandaji, his successor Swami Avatar Puriji, or by respected mahamandaleshwars and sannyasis of the OM Sri Alakh Puriji Siddha Peeth Parampara.

Vishwaguruji emphasises that on this day, devotees offer the “flowers of their devotion” to Mahaprabhuji. He explains that Mahaprabhuji was born with all divine siddhis (perfected extraordinary powers) and that miracles occurred naturally around him, not as acts of display, but as the natural radiance of his divine presence.

Incarnations and Siddhas: Vishwaguruji’s Insight

Vishwaguruji often highlights Mahaprabhuji’s divine nature:

“He was born with all divine siddhis, and miracles naturally occurred just because of his presence, or by listening to his words. But he did not do miracles on purpose, nor demonstrate them.”

Vishwaguruji often describes the difference between an incarnation and a siddha: an incarnation is born already complete with divine powers and spiritual energies, whereas a siddha begins as a virtuous human who, through a disciplined and sattvic life, may attain self-realisation.

Understanding Mahasamadhi

Vishwaguruji explained why the Mahasamadhi of a saint holds such profound significance, and what this sacred day invites us to contemplate. He said that the passing of a being can be understood in three ways. Ordinarily, we say that a person dies or passes away, which means that the soul will eventually take birth again. When someone “goes to heaven”, this indicates that after enjoying the results of their good karma, they too must return to this world. But when a God-realised saint leaves the physical body, an entirely different process takes place: the jiva, the individual soul, dissolves completely, and its separate identity no longer remains. Such a being merges with the infinite Brahman. Therefore, when a sadhu or realised master departs, we say that the one is Brahmleen, absorbed into the Absolute, united with the ultimate reality, or that the master has taken Mahasamadhi, the conscious and intentional leaving of the physical body by a spiritually realised individual.

How We Remain Connected to Mahaprabhuji

Although Mahaprabhuji’s individual soul has merged with Brahman, Vishwaguruji teaches that devotees can still connect with him through love, devotion, and the inner feeling known as bhava. He encourages daily repetition of the mantra: Om Prabhu Deep Niranjan Saba Dukha Bhanjan as a direct means of connecting with Sri Mahaprabhuji.

This mantra, he explains, protects and helps the practitioner, purifies all five koshas (gross and subtle bodies) and harmonises the subtle influences of the planets. Regular repetition opens the inner divine vision in the heart, the "sacred eye" that awakens through the ointment of God’s name.

Chanting the mantra early in the morning is considered the most beneficial. Vishwaguruji advises making at least one mala (rosary of 108 beads) of the mantra each day, meditating on the inner energy while repeating it. He assures that results will become visible within a month if the mantra is repeated daily with purity, positivity and devotion. Without genuine trust in the mantra, he says, it cannot bear its full fruit. One must trust in the mantra, and then one will witness its blessings.

“One Phone Call to God” – The Teaching of Swami Avatar Puriji

Swami Avatar Puriji beautifully describes mantra practice; each mantra is "one phone call to God" and each mala we make is "one conversation with God". Whenever we seek guidance, grace or comfort, we may “call” Mahaprabhuji through his mantra. And through this call, he blesses, protects and uplifts us.

The Eternal Promise

Sri Mahaprabhuji’s assurance still guides devotees around the world:

“The light of my true form shall always be with you.”

His presence continues to bless all who remember him with devotion. Through mantra, meditation, and satsang, his grace remains accessible  timeless, radiant, and unfailing.
